My head hurts, I mean really fucking hurts. I’m not sure what else could have gone wrong today, we lost the toss, the pitch didn’t swing for us, it did for the Aussies, the weather was perfect for the Aussie batting session, far from perfect for ours and in the middle of this the bloody Tigers go dropping bombs. I don’t know whether I’m angry, disappointed or a heady combination of both.
First off the match, what on earth happened to our bowling? Why was Murali not bowled out instead of Dilhara? The pitch was just a ridiculously good batting pitch and losing the toss put the conditions heavily in the Australians favour but we should have had some kind of strategy to combat Ponting, we seemed to do with Hayden but Ponting singlehandedly took that game away from us.
Ah, the throbbings too much, I’m off the bed…I’ll be an armchair pundit and general tomorrow.

ponting? you mean gilchrist?
he was the difference. it was one of a kind innings. so they probably deserve the cup.
but we did great imo.
we were in it at least the rain interruption. d/l par then was above ours by 20 or so. which though sizable was catchable if we had one good over. we had the wickets. all the interruptions disrupted the whole thing.
as for dilhara i think his later overs were better than murali’s.

Team needs to get a few basics right. Return to the basics instilled by Dav Whatmore in 1996.
1. Bowl tight, a good line and length. Just what Vaas failed to do from the start and some of the others (Malinga for example) could not maintain during the innings.
2. To avoid giving away too many extras by loose bowling. Think we gifted the Aussies some 40 or 50 in extras.
3. Bowl to your field.
4. Use attacking fields to unsettle batsmen. How many nicks and snicks went past the wicketkeeper for 4? Could have turned some of then into wickets.
5. Fitness is a must. Fielding less than sharp, though not horrible. Gave away a few too many.
6. Vary the bowling more, use part-time spinners who can lull a batsman into taking rash liberties.
