Shadow Stabbing and Post Processing
The only real hobby I have, not counting the odd obsession I have with collecting first edition Gerald Durrell hardcovers, is photography. I’m generally a wildlife, nature and scenic photographer, as my Flickr account will attest to, and I can’t wait to do some proper wild photography in Sri Lanka. My first official RAN action that I attended however awoke a bit of a journalistic photo yearning in me, especially after my Ground Zero experience last week. As far as I can tell those pictures of the action aren’t mine, but I’ll post some of mine later.
Taking the actual photos is just a small proportion of the work, organizing, post-processing and getting them out into the public domain is actually the most time consuming and tedious. Especially considering that I usually take a few hundred pictures in a day of shooting, for example I took close to 400 today. Going through them is a pain, not to mention cropping, fixing, etc and that’s just for JPEGs, I haven’t even touched my expansive collection of RAW files. Maybe sometime when I’m stuck in isolation I might get to those. I sometimes think that I don’t get out enough and just click, but then if I did that I’d probably be bitching about how I don’t sit in front of my computer enough and process the results.
I think I’m going to spend the rest of the week trying to clear the backlog of photographs I’ve taken since July (maybe even go pro on Flickr) in preparation of a possible photo frenzy for Lovefest on Saturday. On a more random note, favourite song for the week is shadow stabbing by Cake, nod out to Darwin for the recommendation!

Ooo I’m glad you like the tune it’s one of my faves too! Do you like The Eels too by any chance?
Awaiting photos with bated breath…

I love the Eels, have most of his albums bar the latest, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations / Live with Strings…kudos to my Welsh/London/Sri Lankan cousin with impeccable taste in music to educating me on the fineries of the Eels, Pixies, Smiths, etc

Gerald Durrell is awesome and his brother Lawrence is all kinds of wickedness as well. Timely that you should bring him up though, looks like this is the 50th Anniversary of MFOA (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/5339326.stm)
Who by chance is playing at this Lovefest thingie you speak of?

Oh I love Gerald durrell. My all time favourite. He is the reason I have often been accused of growing senile too soon, making me chuckle by myself, and laugh hysterically while reading.Another favourite is carl muller….

I have to say that I think your photography is great. Keep it going!

RK – thanks for that link! Haven’t really read Lawrence though I’ve pretty much read all of Gerald Durrells stuff, he’s actually the reason I’m in the field I am! Lovefest has a fair number of people playing on the floats and stalls, including Oakenfold, Massive Attack, etc. Also going for an afterparty that involves the Dhamaal collective at club 6 that should be pretty rockin’
Evil – why Nov? what happened to ur promise of not partying?!
Indyana – is that as in Jones?…sorry bad joke
…don’t laugh aloud as much for Durrell as for Muller, who is rib ticklingly funny! Though some of his stuff is pretty disturbing…
R – thanks mate!

That’s kinda funny, because Lawrence’s book “Stiff Upper Lip” inspired me as a brat and pushed me in the direction I’m heading. If only those blokes knew their influence on the impressionable minds of Sri Lankan children.
Are you sure Massive Attack is still playing? They were supposed to be the closing act at the V Festival here in Toronto, but couldn’t get their US visas! Broken Social Scene took their place and they’re generally amazing but no Massive Attack.

wow..random coincidence!
…I remember writing Durrell when I was a kid asking him to come to SL for a zoo quest..and laboriously listing out all the endemic birds and mammals from Henry’s and Phillip’s books…such a geeky kid I was (am)!
hmm…as far as I know they are coming…dammit was really looking forward to them!
